Hello! My name is Rachel Sparks. Thanks for taking the time to check out my blog!
Let me tell you a little about myself! I have been in education for over 10 years. My first teaching position was in a PreK 3/4 class. I made some lifelong teacher friends in my first few years of teaching. After 3 years of teaching, my husband and I had our first son. While I had once enjoyed teaching Pre-K, I felt like I could no longer handle dealing with crying at school all day and then crying with my own little one at home. All of the Pre-K teachers know what I’m talking about!!
That was when I made the move to 1st grade. I only taught 1st for one year when I realized that my heart was to become a stay at home mom. I was pregnant with my 2nd son, and I made the difficult decision to resign. Over the next 7 years I had the joy of being home with my 2 boys (and welcoming a third). I loved being able to use everything I knew about early childhood with my own kids. I wouldn’t trade those years for the world! While I was technically a full time mom (and we all know that every mom is a full time mom), I continued to work part time in the schools the majority of that time. I was very fortunate to come back to my old school as well as others in the district to work as an interventionist and test administrator. I loved being able to keep up with all that was changing in education, because we all know how fast things change!
Fast forward seven years, and I was thinking about looking for a part time preschool teacher position. It was the beginning of August, and one day I felt like God was really telling me that it was time for me to go back to teaching full time. Let’s be real...I’m pretty sure God had been trying to tell me this for some time, but sometimes we can be hard of hearing, if you know what I mean!
I filled out my online application that night. Within 2 days I had been hired for a first grade position and was attending new staff orientation. This is my 4th year back in the classroom.
I absolutely love teaching 1st grade! You see so much progress with firsties! The best part of all is giving them the gift of being able to read!!
In my spare time (which we all know is rare), I love to run, hike with my family, read, cook, and watch my boys play soccer.
Again, thank you for taking the time to visit my blog!
